It’s not very often that I get to say that we are ahead of the English Garden community when it comes to trends. Unfortunately, this is one trend that no one wants to be first in.
Recently in an article in the GlobalPost, author Agence France-Presse, lamented about the loss of a gardening generation — specifically Generation X. She goes on to talk about how this group didn’t have parents who taught them and that less than one per cent of them studied gardening in school, compared to 50 per cent of the generation before them.
In Canada, I’ve been talking about the loss of this group of gardeners for a few years now, but I blame two simple little words — low maintenance.
